Lebanon’s Minister of Public Health Raises Tariffs for Dialysis and LDL-Apheresis Sessions to Support Patients

The Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, issued two decisions “to increase the tariff for a dialysis session and a low-density lipoprotein (LDL-Apheresis) blood dialysis session,” according to the following:

– The fee for each renal dialysis treatment session for the hospital becomes: six million and ninety-three thousand Lebanese pounds (6,093,000) and for the doctor: eight hundred and ninety-six thousand pounds (896,000);

The fee for a low-density lipoprotein hemodialysis session (LDL-Apheresis) for the hospital becomes: fifty-four million eight hundred and sixty-one thousand Lebanese pounds (54,861,000), and for the doctor: eight hundred and ninety-six thousand pounds (896,000), and the Ministry of Public Health covers a session every three weeks. Provided that the number of annual sessions does not exceed seventeen sessions.”

He added, “These two decisions by the White Minister come as part of several steps that will be implemented successively, including changing hospitalization fees to make it less expensive for patients.”

Minister Al-Abyad stressed that “raising the tariffs for dialysis and blood dialysis aims primarily to stand by the patient’s side so as not to incur any additional differences, whether from hospitals or treating doctors, at the risk of the responsible person.”

He said, in a statement: “The two decisions secure the rights of hospitals and doctors, taking into account the difficult current financial circumstances and achieving justice.”

He stressed, “Approval of the general budget will reflect more comprehensively on raising hospitalization fees in a way that reduces the additional burdens imposed on patients and contributes to achieving the strategy of the Ministry of Public Health in ensuring the resilience of the health and medical sector in Lebanon.”
