Lebanon’s hospitals are in a state of emergency… How do you prepare for the worst?

Since last Monday, the hospital’s department has been undergoing a baptism to confirm its ability to absorb the waves of casualties resulting from the expansion of Israeli bombing throughout the entire Lebanese region, and the need continues to grow for its health and hospital services.

After the “breaking down of the pagers”, and the success in overcoming the threat of the collapse of the hospital system, the department is once again standing at a major crossroads and challenge, to face the expected pressures, if military operations continue. for a long time.

Although, until now, hospitals and health centers in all “bombed” areas have been able to contain the cases transferred to them, the continued bombing and its pressure on the area under – the south threatens to send the institutions and hospital centers out there. service, and their inability to receive urgent cases, because of their intensity and their abundance and accompanying violence.

Five major hospitals, as well as the Beirut Government Hospital, and many health centers in the southern suburbs, are living in conditions that threaten an inevitable catastrophe, unless the government authorities take the initiative is international as soon as possible to strengthen the security and capabilities. , strengthening their medical and nursing teams, and opening direct financing lines for their expanding and new needs.

More than a thousand beds and more than 40 operating rooms may soon be out of service, which requires official and international warning, and communication to prevent the opening of a hole in the wall of the organization hospitals in Lebanon, opening the way to the fall and fall of health.

The head of the Syndicate of Hospital Owners, Suleiman Haroun, confirms that no decision has been taken to evacuate the hospitals in the southern suburbs yet, but if they are evacuated, it will certainly not be possible to the hospitals in Beirut and Mount Lebanon to accept the number. of beds in the hospitals in the suburbs, which have about a thousand beds. There are large hospitals in the suburbs, especially the Great Prophet Hospital, Bahman, and Al-Sahel Hospital, so it is certain that hospitals outside the suburbs cannot accommodate, so it is able to seek help from the hospitals in the area. north.

In a statement, the Ministry of Health called on hospitals in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and areas not affected by the Israeli aggression to stop receiving non-urgent cold cases until the end of next week, to make way for receive patients in the hospitals in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which will be evacuated due to developments in aggression.

The ministry also called on hospitals and health centers to prepare to care for sick people who are moved at night from the suburbs, because it is expected that duties and activities will increase as the numbers rise.

However, Haroun confirmed to An-Nahar that hospitals decided from last week not to receive cold cases or (non-urgent) operations, but in the case of urgent cases, we cannot refuse to receive them, such as heart attack and the like. Regarding cancer patients and dialysis patients, Haroun explains that cancer patients are treated, but there seems to be a problem with dialysis patients, because we are working to coordinate with the Ministry of Health to increase the number of hours to increase the treatment in special centers. .

In any case, Haroun confirms that there is no decision at the moment to evacuate, and “our decisions in this regard are made every minute at the same time.”

For his part, the head of the nurses’ union, Abeer Kurdi Alama, confirmed to “An-Nahar” that if the decision is made to evacuate the area’s hospitals, the nurses there will cooperate with the hospitals they receive in Beirut and the departments, indicating that there are between 300 and 350 male and female nurses in each hospital in the area.
