Yesterday the Lebanese military judiciary prosecuted 7 people, including an arrestee of the “Hezbollah” terrorist militia, in the attack on the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon.
Last December 14, Irish soldier Sean Rooney was killed and three were injured when their military vehicle was attacked by gunfire in the Al-Aqibiya area in southern Lebanon, a zone of influence of the “Hezbollah” militia ”.
Private Lebanese media said the government commissioner at the military court, Judge Fadi Akiki, charged 7 people, including one arrested, for the attack on international forces in the south of the country.
According to articles providing for up to 20 years in prison, Judge Akiki charged the arrested “M. A “for committing manslaughter and attempted intentional manslaughter, and the other six for attempted murder, threatening shooting and sabotage in military vehicle.” As for the six absent defendants, he issued search and assessment notices against 4 and other unidentified persons.
Judge Akiki referred this charge to the first military instructor judge, Fadi Sawan, requesting the issuance of the necessary warrants as required by the investigation.
Since 1978, the UNIFIL force has been deployed in southern Lebanon and includes approximately 10,000 soldiers. One of its tasks is to monitor the implementation of resolution 1701.
