Lebanon Parliament Approves Six Draft Laws – Speaker Adjourns Session

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, adjourned the legislative plenary session to six in the evening today, after losing a quorum in the session before noon, approving six draft laws from the agenda, and referring the draft Capital Control Law to the committees after the Prime Minister pledged to prepare a draft within a period of two months.

The legislative plenary session was opened under the chairmanship of President Nabih Berri with a minute of silence to mourn the martyrs of Lebanon and Palestine, which was boycotted by the powerful Lebanon bloc.

Then the items on the agenda began to be presented, and the draft law contained in Decree No. 9000 related to the production of distributed renewable energy was approved.

Then the General Assembly of the House of Representatives discussed the draft law contained in Decree No. 9014 relating to establishing exceptional and temporary controls on bank transfers and cash withdrawals, and it was returned to the committees at the request of the Prime Minister.

The draft law contained in Decree No. 9204 was approved regarding the request for approval to conclude a loan agreement No. (1061) between the Lebanese Republic and the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to finance the project to establish sewage systems in the Batroun district.

The draft law contained in Decree No. 13760 amending some provisions of the Social Security Law and establishing the retirement and social protection system was approved after introducing amendments to some of its articles.

The expedited draft law contained in Decree No. 12617 relating to the request for approval to conclude a loan agreement between the Government of the Republic of Lebanon and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development to implement the second additional financing project for the Social Safety Network Emergency Crisis was approved, amended after adding an article.

The draft law contained in Decree No. 9910 relating to the request for approval to conclude an agreement between the Government of the Lebanese Republic and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies regarding the legal status of the International Federation in Lebanon was then approved.

The draft law contained in Decree No. 9288 relating to the request for approval to conclude a loan agreement with the European Investment Bank to contribute to financing the roads and employment project in Lebanon was approved, amended.

The General Assembly discussed the proposal for the Lebanese Sovereign Fund Law.
