Lebanon Mayor Calls for Action Against Excessive Generator Fees Imposed on Subscribers

“Lebanon Debate”

The mayor of Ghobeiry, Maan Khalil, confirms that, “In light of the complete absence of the state’s administrations, judiciary, and security services to hold beneficiaries accountable at the expense of the poor, the generator owners, in agreement among themselves, impose additional fees on each subscriber starting from the amount of $100.”

Khalil explained in a call with “Lebanon Debate” that, “We have tried for some time to contact the Ministry of Economy to conduct inspection tours of the collection operations that take place by generator owners, in order to take the necessary measures against the violations they commit, but we have not received any answer.”

He stresses that, “Today, the political forces are required to put pressure on the Ministry of Economy and State Security to activate their patrols, write arrest reports against them, and implement the necessary financial measures with the aim of deterring them.”

When asked about the role of the “Shiite duo” in the violations that occur, especially within an area affiliated with them? Khalil answers: “The Shiite duo is concerned with political affairs and therefore the judiciary is not with them, but they can alleviate this problem by putting pressure on those concerned and moving the judiciary,” noting that “our message is to all political parties and not just the Shiite duo because the southern suburb has several references.” Religious, partisan and parliamentary.”

Khalil warns, saying: “There are people among the generator owners who are supported by a certain party or are either partisan and supporter of a specific party, noting that these fees that are imposed will not stop at the level of Ghobeiry and the suburb, but may extend to other areas if they do not exist in the first place.” .
