The heads of the land transport sector federations and syndicates in Lebanon held a meeting headed by Bassam Tlais at the headquarters of the General Labor Union.
The session was devoted, according to a statement issued by them on Monday, “to review the draft of the new transport tariff project, which was prepared by the General Directorate of Land Transport based on the directives of the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Dr. Ali Hamiyah.”
After reviewing the project and the construction figures it included for the cost elements that make up the tariff, the attendees unanimously decided to “thank the Minister of Public Works and Transport for his initiative and directing the relevant administration to prepare the project.”
“After extensive discussion of numbers, distances and prices, they agreed to the draft decision with some important amendments that suit drivers and citizens.”
They stressed “the positive step by Minister Hamiyah”, hoping that “it will be accompanied by the start of implementing the traffic law in terms of suppressing violations: fraudulent – private – fake applications – motorcycles, foreign workers, and others, immediately after the decision is signed, announced, and goes into effect.”
The attendees assigned Talis to “review the Ministers of Public Works, Transport, Interior, and Municipalities regarding issuing the tariff decision and starting to implement procedures to protect legitimate drivers in the interest of the citizen, the driver, and public order.”
The attendees asked “legitimate public drivers to adhere to the tariff decision as soon as it is issued.”
