22 people were killed and 117 injured from the two Israeli strikes in Beirut, the Lebanese Ministry of Health said.
By that count, the raids are the deadliest in the nation’s capital since open war between Hezbollah and Israel began.
One of the Israeli strikes in Beirut tonight targeted a senior Hezbollah official, Wafik Safa, three security sources said.
Safa, who is said to be the head of the coordination body and military liaison for the Shiite group, survived, according to these sources.

According to Israeli media reports, Safa participated in several negotiations in previous years, including in 2006 when he negotiated the return of two Israeli soldiers who had been kidnapped before the July 2006 war. Their remains were finally returned to Israel two years later. .
