Lebanon: Israel launched dozens of airstrikes – 2024-09-23 08:15:58

Israel launched dozens of airstrikes in southern Lebanon this evening, according to Lebanese media, in one of the heaviest waves of attacks since early October.

Earlier today, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallad stressed that operations against Hezbollah would continue with the aim of ensuring the safe return of residents to the border areas of the north. “Gradually, Hezbollah will pay a bigger and bigger price,” Gallad assured.

The devices were intercepted before reaching Lebanon

The preliminary investigation by the security services in Beirut shows that the communication devices that exploded the previous two days in various parts of Lebanon, were trapped before they reached the country, according to a letter from the Lebanese diplomatic mission to the United Nations that came to the knowledge of the news agency Reuters.

Lebanese authorities also ruled that the explosives in the bugged buzzers and portable radios procured by Hezbollah members were detonated by sending electronic messages to those devices, the letter to the UN Security Council said.

37 people were killed and more than 3,000 injured from the explosion of the organization’s buzzers and portable radios.

Hamas is grateful to Hezbollah

Hamas today expressed its “deep gratitude” for Hezbollah’s support after the Lebanese group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, vowed to keep up the pressure on Israel until a ceasefire is reached in the Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian movement estimates in its statement that Nasrallah’s stance prevents Israel’s plans “to bend the front of support to our people and our resistance in the Gaza Strip.”

Hassan Nasrallah earlier delivered a speech following the deadly explosions of jammed communications devices on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hamas and Hezbollah blamed Israel, with Hezbollah’s leader admitting that his organization had suffered “a serious and unprecedented blow in the history of Lebanon”.

Nasrallah warned, however, that the group would continue its attacks on Israel until the war in the Gaza Strip ends.
