“Lebanon Debate”
The Director of Medical Care at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Al-Helou, revealed yesterday evening, Thursday, that the new tariffs of the Ministry of Health will enter into force at the beginning of next April and will reach 80% in government hospitals and 65% in private hospitals, which will reflect positively on all patients, after it became… Hospitalization and medical care are exclusively the right of the well-off.
But in the absence of oversight, do hospitals adhere to these tariffs?
In this context, the head of the Private Hospitals Syndicate, Suleiman Haroun, revealed to “Lebanon Debate” that “next week he will meet with the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Firas Al-Abyad, to learn about all the developments and the date of the official announcement of the start of the new tariffs.”
He pointed out that “the Ministry will raise tariffs about 50 times, as if the hospitals’ dollars had become 75 thousand. This means that the patient will pay 35% of the value of the bill in private hospitals, with the hospitals resubmitting the remaining 65% of the bill to the Ministry of Health, so that the Ministry will pay.” An advance of 60%, and the remaining 5% will be completed after about two months.”
He considered that “this step will have a positive impact on citizens, especially since the Ministry of Health’s current contribution to the hospital bill does not exceed 25%, and therefore the new tariff will reduce the burden on the citizen.”
Haroun stressed that “the hospitals will pledge not to collect any illegal fees from the patients of the Ministry of Health,” stressing that “if this happens from any hospital, the contract with it will be terminated immediately.”
