“Lebanon Debate”
The head of the Union of Workers and Distributors in the Gas and Supplies Sector, Farid Zainoun, and Caretaker Minister of Energy, Walid Fayyad, called for the necessity of renewing the decision issued in 2015 regarding the replacement of domestic gas bottles, especially after the spread of the phenomenon of worn out gas bottles by the displaced Syrians who brought them with them. To the Lebanese markets.
This call raised question marks about the presence of “time bombs” in homes due to the presence of worn out bottles that must be replaced.
In this context, Zenoun explained to Lebanon Debate that “the decision originally included four million vials, but months ago, with the removal of many vials that had been placed in homes and warehouses for more than 30 years due to the need for them in light of the current time, It was renewed and one million bottles were added, bringing it to 5 million new bottles.
He added, “With the expiration of the decision approaching in light of the replacement of 4.5 million gas bottles, I hoped Minister Fayyad would renew the decision, considering that the displaced Syrians brought into Lebanon approximately one and a half million worn-out bottles, and these bottles have spread in the markets.”
He pointed out, “In light of the new security situation and the ongoing war on the southern front, many citizens stored gas, which revealed that there are many old and worn-out bottles in markets and homes.”
He stressed that “the goal behind his statement today is to maintain public safety, given that there is a risk that one of these bottles could explode in the home of any citizen.”
He revealed, “During the field tours, we noticed that there was a fair amount of worn-out bottles in the markets, so we asked the Minister of Energy to renew this decision.”
How can a citizen replace the old bottle with a new one? Zainoun replied: “Any citizen can contact a distributor or any plumber shop and replace the old bottle with a new one, but quantities have become very limited today,” stressing that “exchanging the bottle is included in the price issued by the Ministry of Energy, so citizens do not pay anything.” Additional allowance.
In conclusion, Zainoun confirmed that “up to now he has not received any contact from the Ministry of Energy in response to his statement,” revealing that he is “in the process of requesting an appointment from Minister Fayyad to put it in the general picture, and the risks of not renewing the decision.”
