Lebanon Debate: Israeli Attacks, Arab Summit, and the Presidential File

“Lebanon Debate”

The events in Gaza turned the Lebanese interior upside down, and while it ignited the southern front, it put the presidential file into a coma that may last for a long time.

In this context, MP Ghassan Skaf said, “A month after the start of the confrontations in the Gaza Strip, and after all the efforts put in place for a ceasefire have failed, this is an indication that things are heading towards escalation.”

In an interview with “Lebanon Debate”, Skaff said: “The Israeli attacks on the southern front went outside the scope of the rules of engagement after targeting civilians and international forces.”

He stressed that “yesterday’s visit to Lebanon by French mediator Amos Hochstein is an American message to avoid escalation and to avoid entering the southern front into the war.”

He considered that, “If the Arab summit in Riyadh next Saturday fails, Lebanon may slide into a war. We know when it will begin, but we cannot know when it will end.”

In conclusion, Skaff pointed out that “in light of the tensions taking place, there may be a push towards electing a president of the republic, in the near future, and this is the only positive, especially since we have entered the second year of vacancy, so in a full year we were not able to We elect a president who is cold, perhaps we can elect a president who is hot.”
