“Lebanon Debate”
The single judge in Baabda, who presides over juvenile cases in Mount Lebanon, Joel Abu Haidar, issued a decision to take a temporary measure to prevent Freshpharma from selling Fresh multi plus and Fresh zinc to any drug store or pharmacy in the Mount Lebanon Governorate.
According to information from Lebanon Debate, Judge Abu Haidar made this decision after suspicions that there was tampering with the expiry date of these preparations, which prompted the Lebanese Pharmacists Syndicate, after receiving the official referral, to take a precautionary measure and refrain from dispensing these preparations.
In this context, the head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Joe Salloum, confirmed to “Lebanon Debate” that “the Syndicate received the official referral today, and in order to preserve public safety, we asked all pharmacies in Lebanon, not just in Mount Lebanon, to refrain from dispensing these preparations, and to place them in a safe place.” My side is in the pharmacy, until the final decision is issued by the Ministry of Health, given that the Ministry is the one that registers food supplements.”
He stressed that “the union does not have the right to withdraw these preparations, as the Ministry is concerned with this matter. The decision to withdraw them and compensate pharmacists and others is exclusively entrusted to the Ministry of Health.”
He appealed to the Minister of Health, Firas Al-Abyad, to decide on these preparations as soon as possible, considering that tampering with the validity of the preparations poses a threat to the lives of citizens.
Salloum pointed out that “the union is conducting its internal investigations, but the union is subject to the issue of medicines and nutritional supplements to the Ministry of Health, so the final decision is its own.”
