The Israeli army announced on Friday that two UNIFIL soldiers were wounded by Israeli army gunfire, during what the army described as a “threat response” in southern Lebanon.

The army explained in a statement that it had warned the UNIFIL forces by directing them to safe areas and asking them to stay there, hours before the incident took place.

This news comes after a wave of international criticism following the shooting of the Israeli army at UNIFIL checkpoints in southern Lebanon, which resulted in the wounding of two Indonesian soldiers.
