Lebanon: 21 dead in Christian village attacked by Israel (Video) –

At least 21 people were killed in an Israeli strike on a Christian village in northern Lebanon, the country’s health ministry said, adding that DNA tests were being carried out to identify the victims.

It is the first time that the village of Aito, located far from the border where fighting between Hezbollah and Israel has been going on since September 23, has been targeted.

According to the ministry’s announcement, “21 people were killed and 8 injured in the attack by the Israeli enemy in Aito, Zgarta district.” The ministry clarified that the tally is provisional.

The target was an apartment, the Lebanese news agency ANI reported. A security official told AFP that the building housed many displaced families from southern Lebanon.

The bombing took place “as soon as a man arrived in a car” in front of the building, added the source, who asked not to be named.

According to an AFP photographer, bodies were visible in front of the building at the entrance to the village which was flattened by the impact, amid ambulances coming and going.

The Lebanese army cordoned off the area where the fire broke out, he added.
