Lebanese Politician Reveals Corruption Scandal in Banking Sector: Names, Amounts, and European Investigations

Representative Jamil Al-Sayed tweeted, on his account via the “X” platform, writing: “The initial report of the Alvarez Company about auditing the accounts of the Banque du Liban was published yesterday, and the funny thing is that this report is still confidential in the drawers of the Minister of Finance of Lebanon!”

And he continued, “The important thing is that the report mentioned the names of about 15 people and associations who benefited from Riad Salameh’s “honours” of hundreds of thousands of dollars, stealing money from depositors.

Al-Sayyed explained, “This is because the beneficiaries are actually hundreds of millions of dollars. They are more than three thousand people, and most of them were reported in European investigations through financial engineering, subsidized loans, brokerages, smuggling of money and other benefits and organized looting.”

And he stressed, “Among the beneficiaries, over more than 15 years, are politicians of every kind, senior judges, officers, employees, heads of security agencies, clerics, banks, businessmen, relatives, close associates, television stations, newspapers, radio stations, news websites, and media professionals in the hundreds.”

Al-Sayed continued, “Among them, for example, is a journalist who alone benefited more than 100 million dollars during the past years, and he did not fail with others, not only in defending Salama, but also in directing their depravity and contempt against everyone who said a word about Salama’s crimes.”

And he added, “What is certain so far is that the European investigations, in which coordination is taking place between those countries and their addresses are currently being leaked, will be published by them in the near future within lists that include the names, dates, and looted amounts, especially since some of the seniors involved with Salameh are bank heads and others. They “donated” recently before the European judiciary to give all their information about Salama in return for protecting themselves and covering them up.

And Al-Sayed continued, “It remains that if our parliament did not fail to hold Riad Salameh, the governments and others accountable, and it is he who trampled on the dignity of the parliament, and deliberately and contemptuously prevented him from attending the sessions, even if successive governments had tried what Honorable President Hassan Diab tried when he was unable to dismiss Riad Salameh. with the complicity of almost everyone, directly and indirectly, and where it was nevertheless extended to him in the previous era.

And he continued, “If our senior, corrupt judges, who are involved in most of them, had carried out their minimum duties in investigation and accountability, Lebanon and its people would not have reached this bankruptcy and great collapse.”

Al-Sayed added, “When the money of depositors, including residents and expatriates, was lost, and Lebanon’s reputation and corruption spread throughout the globe, as is happening today.”

He concluded his tweet, saying: “And what is coming is greater.”
