Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Lebanese Minister of Works, Ali Hamiya, confirmed that the source of the breach witnessed by Rafik Hariri International Airport in Beirut is still unknown, whether it was internal or external, and he confirmed that the security services are working to determine that.
Hamiya said in a press conference held on Monday: “It is not known whether the breach was internal or external,” and added that “the security services are continuing their work to determine the type of breach, the extent of the damage it caused to the network, and the source of the breach.”
The Lebanese Minister stressed that it is necessary for the airport to return to its normal operation, and stressed that the damage to the Internet servers has been limited and is being treated.
Hamiya stressed the need for greater attention to cybersecurity on the part of the Lebanese state, stressing that the breach was not due to “administrative negligence,” but rather “something that happens in all countries of the world,” he said.
The official Lebanese News Agency reported on Sunday that the departure and arrival screens at Rafic Hariri International Airport in the capital, Beirut, had been subjected to electronic hacking, and the agency explained that it was being remedied.
