Lebanese Leaders Have Deny Their Promises

PARIS – President French, Emmanuel Macron accuses the leaders Lebanon betrayed their promise of failure to form a government after a giant explosion in Beirut harbor in August. This statement came after Mustapha Adib, who was sworn in on August 31, resigned as Prime Minister of Lebanon amid a political deadlock over the formation of a new government cabinet.

Macron said the political elite in Lebanon decided to betray their obligations and had committed collective treason by failing to form a new government. (Also read: Corruption and Support Hezbollah, US Sanctioned Lebanese Officials)

“They have decided to betray this commitment (to form a government). I truly feel ashamed of the country’s leaders,” Macron said in a statement.

“I see that the Lebanese authorities and political forces are choosing to support their partisan and individual interests to the detriment of the public interest of the country,” he continued, as reported by Al Arabiya on Monday (9/28/2020).

He also sent a sharp warning to the Hezbollah group, which is well represented in the current administration and which analysts blame for delaying the process of forming a new government. (Also read: Not even a month has served, Lebanon’s new PM resigns)

“Hezbollah should not think that it is stronger than it really is. They have to show that they respect all Lebanese people and in recent days, have clearly shown the opposite,” he said.
