Lebanese Journalist Joseph Abu Fadel Faces Backlash for Controversial Statement

“Lebanon Debate”

A schizophrenia experienced by journalist Joseph Abu Fadel, which he translated into words in one of his television interviews, to perpetuate it by circulating this speech on social networking sites as if he was bragging about this “profound intellectual achievement.”

This accusation does not come out of nowhere, especially since Abu Fadel was until recently the guest of the “The Environment That He Cannot Live With” channels. This talk is not related to a political party with which he disagrees, as he used to do with the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, in the recent period, but rather It affected members of an entire sect.

Abu Fadel said in a television interview: “There is an environment in Lebanon that cannot be lived with, specifically the environment of Hezbollah,” justifying this by saying that in this environment they pray 5 times a day, and there are occasions such as Ashura and the month of Ramadan. I am like Joseph Abu Fadel and not as a Christian, which cannot be lived in. I can live with them.”

Although Abu Fadel’s words had a heavy impact on the members of the Shiite sect, the responses rejecting this logic were expressed by Lebanese citizens from all sects, especially those active on social media.

Journalist Ghassan Saud, in a post he published on the (X) platform, responded to Abu Fadel and said: “They are simplifying about it, thinking that it is his problem with Michel Aoun or Gibran.. After a while, they will discover that their problem with Aoun and Bassil was a ‘tactic’; their problem is much bigger. “.

He added, “It is useful to remember that this is the thing that is dear to the heart of CNN TV, and the hearts of the movement’s fans..”

He continued, “Because of Aoun and Basil, because in the first stage he is not a man of hope, he takes a breath and opens it…”

Saud concluded by saying: “Not once did anyone insult Aoun and Bassil, or make fun of it, but he ended up in this rock bottom.”

As for the journalist specializing in social media affairs, Sahar Ghaddar, she wrote on the (X) platform, “Joseph Abu Fadel has overcome racism and entered a state of chronic illness… May God help him, a sinner who pity him.”

As for the journalist, Jamal Shuaib, he commented on Abu Fadel’s words, and wrote on the (X) platform: “After the “dull” responses and weak “justifications” that the so-called Joseph Abu Fadel gave in his account of what he said on “Al-MurTV,” it becomes clear that he Despite his insistence that “it is a personal opinion,” and of course it is, that is, it does not represent “a Christianity that he affirmed that he does not practice,” we responded to him “personal”: If the price of what you said is enough to buy a house in Greenland, do not delay, for those you cannot live with will remain. In this country, we are as firm as the rocks of our mountains, as turbulent as the waves of our sea, as steadfast as a tree whose root is firm and whose branches are in the sky.”

He added. “Clean the sea or drink its water…if you like it…or it breaks, it makes no difference.”

In turn, journalist Ahmed Yassin responded to these words, in a post on the (X) platform, and said: “I tried to ask Joseph Abu Fadel for an excuse, but unfortunately, his words show ignorance. There is no fear of the other. This environment did not impose its religious customs on you.” She did not force you to follow her religion, nor did she disparage you as a person or religion.”

He added, “We want to live with everyone, Joseph. If you are unable to accept the issue, the door to immigration is open, although wherever you go you will meet those who differ from you in religion.”

He advised Abu Fadel, “Do not write any clarification or justification. Apologize publicly to those you attacked without reason, and then review yourself, perhaps reaching a result that will remove this ignorance.”

As for the political writer Enas Karima, in turn, she commented on a post on the (X) platform and said: “What Joseph Abu Fadel said is an incomplete insult that killed his morals, so do not give weight to those who have no weight! I mean, your problem with the “Shiites” is the five daily prayers, Ramadan, and special occasions? What is this deep problem, Abu Al-Zouz?

She added, “The man shot himself in the foot, and this fall towards the Muslims in general is irreversible, even if they march! So stand up!”
