Lebanese Foreign Minister Condemns Israeli Threats: Violation of International Resolution 1701

Beirut, November 15, 2023 (Xinhua) – Foreign Minister of the Lebanese caretaker government, Abdullah Bouhabib, considered today (Wednesday) that the continued Israeli threats to destroy Lebanon constitute a flagrant violation of International Resolution 1701, which put an end to the war launched by Israel against Lebanon in 2006.

Bouhabib pointed out in a statement after his meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Wronczka, that Israeli extremism brings disasters, and moderation brings peace.

He noted that he asked Frontska to inform the Secretary-General of the United Nations of our appreciation for his position, especially his expression of moral and humanitarian voice in defense of children and civilians in Gaza.

Last Saturday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant threatened residents of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, that they would “meet the fate of the people of the Gaza Strip” if a war broke out between Israel and Hezbollah.

Since Hamas launched Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” against Israel on October 7, the Lebanese-Israeli border has witnessed daily intermittent and mutual bombardment between the Israeli army on the one hand, and Hezbollah and Palestinian factions in Lebanon on the other hand, leaving dead and wounded on both sides of the border.
