Lebanese Army Commander: We Won’t Let Civilian Peace Undermine in Light of Presidential Vacancy | News

The commander of the Lebanese army, General Joseph Aoun, said on Monday that the army will not allow the situation and civilian peace to be destabilized, with Lebanon entering the presidential vacancy phase and the raising of what described as the ceiling of political tensions.

This occurred in the instructions given by Aoun to the military on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day, corresponding to November 22 of each year, according to an army statement.

The Lebanese Army commander added that the completion of the southern maritime border demarcation file is a glimmer of hope for Lebanon’s recovery from the current crisis, investing an essential part of its natural wealth.

“This achievement needs state institutions to protect and accompany it, for the benefit of the country and the Lebanese,” he said.

President Michel Aoun’s 6-year mandate ended on 31 October, leaving a presidential void, amid Parliament’s inability to elect a successor due to differences and tensions between parliamentary blocs.
