A victory for the Lebanese Al-Hikma and the Moroccan Fath Rabat at the opening of the Doha International Basketball Championship
Al-Hikma Beirut, the Lebanese champion, defeated its compatriot, Beirut First Club, 68-65, in the second Doha Qatari International Basketball Tournament, on Monday, in the match that took place between them at the Al-Gharafa Club Hall.
The details of the rounds came (22 – 12, 35 – 26, 55 – 45, 68 – 65), where Al-Hikma led by a comfortable margin for most of the match, before its competitor returned from afar in the final minutes, without being able to achieve victory.
The best scorer was for the winner, Aliou Diarra, with 21 points, for the loser, Alfonso Rui, with 28 points, and for his teammate, Kenny Heath, a former Beirut club player, with 27 points. In the same group, Morocco’s FUS Rabat defeated Iraq’s Tigris 92-79.
The first and second place holders will qualify for the semi-finals, after which a competition will take place, in order to reach the final confrontation.
The teams ranked third and fourth in each group will also play two matches, in order to determine the positions, while each participating team is allowed 4 foreign players in the main roster, and 3 of them participate in each match (two on the field), according to the tournament system.
