The Syrian national football team paid the price for injuries once again, and the victim this time was the Lebanese Al-Ahed winger Mohamed Hallaq, who will miss the Asian Cup finals scheduled for next week in Qatar, according to what the Syrian Federation announced on its Facebook account.
The team’s doctor, Ahmed Kanjo, said that Hallaq was injured in Syria’s friendly match with Kyrgyzstan in Dubai, and the player was found to have a severe “bruise” on the lower third of the right biceps femoris muscle, which led to soft tissue crushing and a second-degree stretch in the muscle.
He added that the 25-year-old player needs a three-week treatment and rehabilitation period, which means he will miss the continental finals.
In turn, the player said, “The opposing player intervened on me with his knee. I felt severe pain and was replaced immediately. It became clear after undergoing medical imaging that I needed to rest for up to three weeks. This is my share, and I wish the team success.”
The coaching staff did not make any announcement about replacing Hallaq’s absence with another player, while the team finished its camp in Dubai, and headed “Sunday” morning to the Qatari capital, Doha.
This is the third injury to the Syrian national team, after striker Mardik Mardikian and midfielder Muhammad Othman, who were replaced by Muhammad Anz and Alaa Al-Dali.
The Syrian national team had a friendly draw with Kyrgyzstan 1-1, and will conclude its preparations by meeting Malaysia on Monday in Doha.
Syria, which has never won the title in its history, plays in Group Two, alongside Australia, Uzbekistan and India.
