Madrid –
Zinedine Zidane has decided to leave Real Madrid. The French football legend revealed the reason behind his departure.
Zidane left the Santiago Bernabeu after Madrid did not win the 2020/2021 season. In the domestic competition, Los Blancos finished runners-up in the Spanish League and were knocked out in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey. While in Europe, Madrid were eliminated by Chelsea in the Champions League semifinals with an aggregate of 1-3.
The names of Zidane’s successor candidates began to emerge. After being rejected by Massimiliano Allegri, who chose to return to Juventus, the seat left by Zidane is now leaning towards Antonio Conte, after bringing Inter Milan won the Scudetto.
In an open letter, Zinedine Zidane compared his current departure with his departure three years ago. The 1998 World Cup winner revealed that he left because he was no longer trusted Madrid.
“In March 2019, I received an offer to return to Madrid after an eight-month break, because president Florentino Perez asked me, but also you guys asked me to do it. Being in Madrid for 20 years was the most beautiful thing that has ever happened to my life and I know that I owe it completely to Florentino Perez, who supported me in 2001,” Zidane wrote in an open letter to Madridistas, quoted from AS.
“He fought for me, brought me here when some people were against him. Now I have decided to leave and I want to explain the reasons. I left not because I was tired of coaching. In May 2018, I left after 2.5 years like that. lots of wins and trophies. I feel the team needs a new approach to stay at the highest level.”
“Now things are different. I left because I no longer had the trust from the club I needed, nor the support to build something in the medium or long term. I understand football and I know the demands of a club like this. Real Madrid.”
“I know when you don’t win you have to leave. But with this a very important thing has been forgotten, everything I built on a day-to-day basis is forgotten, what I bring to my relationship with the players, with the 150 people who work with me. with and around the team.”
“I’m a person born to win and I’m here to win trophies, but more important than this are the people, their feelings, life itself and I have the feeling that these things don’t count, there’s a failure to understand that. those things also maintain the dynamics of a club.” Zidane add.
