Giuseppe Conte he left the European council, now on its second day, to be present at the funeral of Jole Santelli, president of the Calabria Region who passed away last night. The 51-year-old Berlusconi had been ill for some time but this had not prevented her from running thanks to the push of the Cav and from being elected to lead the territory she loved most of all. It is right that the Prime Minister also attends the final farewell, even if he is causing much discussion his choice to delegate everything to Angela Merkel. This means that Italy will be represented by Germany at the negotiating table: for some it may be a surprise, but in reality it is not because it is clear that this government is absolutely aligned with European interests and especially those of Germany. Thanks to Merkel’s influence, Italy hopes to get its hands as soon as possible on at least a small part of the billions envisaged by the Recovery Fund. Conte’s delegation to the German Chancellor has split public opinion in half: there are those who believe that it is even better that Merkel and not our prime minister are in the interests of Italy and those who instead see this investiture as the last gesture of submission to Germany.
