In a team, talent is not everything. It is the harsh law of rugby that the Alamercery Cadets of Colomiers are learning. The group is full of excellent players but cannot, for the moment, get the collective going. “There are too many hormones in this group at the moment,” prefers to play down coach Eddy Lam. “We had difficulty managing the matches, in the last meeting against Auch, we are not far away but we must show more maturity to get there,” analyzes the coach.
Placed in a group with Stade Toulousain, Auch, US Montauban, Tarbes, Nîmes, the cadets are entitled to a rigorous apprenticeship. “It’s a great group of friends with enormous individual qualities but our tests are often the result of isolated exploits, of actions carried out with the muscles and not with the head,” describes the technician in search of automatisms. And yet, the squad has not changed greatly since the Gaudermen category with only eight arrivals out of a total of 39 players.
Slow evolution
“This generation is evolving slowly, they did not qualify last year and must regain their confidence because that does not reflect the intrinsic quality of the boys,” he encourages at the dawn of an already crucial second block . “The objective is qualification, we have totaled one point from the first three matches so we have to do better,” says Eddy before continuing with trips to Nîmes and Tarbes as well as the arrival of Montauban.
“The ax may fall if we fail to react, especially since the opportunity to qualify is well within our grasp,” argues the determined coach. To do this, we will have to aim for 3rd place in the group or finish best 4th and above all count on collective awareness.”
