Learn from the Case of Buying Roof Tiles at Tokopedia

It’s not social media if it doesn’t make noise. This time the excitement was ‘sponsored’ by a Tokopedia user named Anita Feng. Through her LinkedIn account, Anita Feng shared an experience about a roof tile purchase transaction through the Tokopedia platform with a pretty good value; IDR 28.7 million!

In short, Anita Feng make a tile purchase transaction at one of the sellers on Tokopedia. A little summary of the chronology of this story through Anita’s version, starting on February 14, 2023. Intending to buy 2,870 tiles, Anita made a transaction of IDR 28.7 million and made a delivery option same day use the motorcycle.

A day later, on February 15, 2023 to be precise. The status of the order for nearly 3,000 tiles read “Order Arrived”. Although Anita claims, she has not received the product she ordered at all. The following day, on February 16, 2023, Anita filed a complaint by clicking on the complaint feature on the Tokopedia application. After making a complaint, the order he ordered never arrived and the status on the application still read “Order Complained”.

The peak was on February 17, 2023, according to Anita’s story, the “Complaint Order” status was automatically revoked by the system at exactly 19.00 and Anita Feng’s funds were forwarded to the seller. Anita also claimed that the shop window where she made the transaction was lost on Tokopedia following traces review from the shop in question. After ‘eating’ Rp. 28.7 million, the shop disappeared without a trace, according to Anita’s version.

Tokopedia presented different facts

However, the facts that were explained by Tokopedia later differed from what was explained by Anita Feng in her upload.

Fact #1 Tile delivery uses a private courier outside of Tokopedia

The first fact, it is true that Anita purchased roof tiles with a nominal value of Rp. 28.7 million on February 14, 2023 using delivery same day by motorcycle on Tokopedia. However, what was interesting later, a search from Tokopedia found an important fact that at the seller’s offer, which was also agreed by the buyer, namely Anita Feng, tile delivery was carried out using a private courier outside Tokopedia. While the courier same day which have been scheduled through the Tokopedia application, are only used for sending invoice just.

This zonk the first and in my opinion, quite crucial. I am seller active at once buyer who is also very active on Tokopedia. And for the last 4 years being active on the platform, I have always avoided sending options other than those listed and presented by the application. I think yes, as smart buyer, it should be common understanding for us to be aware and fully aware that all options made outside of the application are risky and of course very risky.

Tokopedia, in my opinion, already has a fairly complete selection of options regarding which delivery service we want, along with the respective price we want. This feature is very complete, even more complete than the shipping service selection options available on several other competitors on the platform ecommerce other.

Fact #2 Anita did not file a complaint

The second fact, Anita Feng mentioned in her upload that she had filed a complaint, but Tokopedia did not follow up on the complaint and it was automatically resolved by the system.. He also mentioned that he had spoken at the Tokopedia Care service, but he considered the service to be slow and convoluted. Interestingly, however, Tokopedia’s own internal search later proved that Anita’s order was completed automatically according to the 2×24 hour deadline after she received the order and the funds were forwarded to the seller. From checking the Tokopedia system, Anita did not file a complaint. Tokopedia also ensured that there was no system error in Anita’s transaction process.

This zonk the second and again very, very crucial. I’ve experienced something similar but with a different story. The complaint feature at Tokopedia is actually quite a solution and in my personal experience, it is quite easy for both parties to find common ground. I’ve traded with the system pre-order related to one item. Long story short, this item was finished and sent to me but it was lost in the shipping process via an expeditionary courier.

What I did then, because the order never arrived at my address, was to ask questions and file a complaint with the seller. Tokopedia is quite a solution in this matter. As a platform, he ensures that the seller is willing to resend the goods that are rightfully mine, while assuring the seller that the money I have paid into the joint account in the Tokopedia application will later be forwarded to the seller. A solution that satisfies both parties. The buyer is satisfied, the seller is satisfied, even though he had to give up one product lost on the expedition.

Tokopedia has deactivated the store

Tokopedia itself in its official statement stated that they had permanently deactivated the associated store. This is because Tokopedia considers the store to have violated the terms and conditions. One of these violations and the most fatal is facilitating shipments outside the Tokopedia application. But unlucky for Anita Feng, she didn’t even get a tile and her money was missing tens of millions. Even from the latest developments, Anita has not responded and has not reported it to the authorities. Even though Tokopedia is ready to cooperate if this case is reported to the police and handled legally.

This case itself actually shows that technology does exist and is made to facilitate most of our affairs, as long as we know how to use it properly and properly. Technology is indeed designed through smart system, but don’t let us not smart also take advantage of the system.

#1 Always check the store’s transaction history

Avoiding cases like Anita Feng’s is actually quite easy. Even ordinary people should be literate with simple things like this. The very first, what I usually do most often is to check the transaction history of the store that we want to make shopping. I definitely check how many stars it has and what customer comments they leave when shopping at the store. Incidentally, I am a very very skeptical person and it really helps me not to be fooled by the behavior of naughty sellers on the platform ecommerce.

# 2 Make sure to communicate within the application

The second, ensures all communication takes place within the app. Because there are already features chat and it’s quite easy to use too, I think Tokopedia has provided more than enough features that make it easier for us to make sure of the basics before we check out goods and transactions.

#3 Click “Complete Order” when you have checked your shopping items

Third, make sure to click “Complete Order” when we have actually received the item in hand and seen it with our own eyes. After you click “Complete Order”, all related seller and buyer matters are considered complete. This is because the buyer’s funds stored in the joint account will be directly forwarded to the seller.

I usually tell the seller first that I can’t check the goods that have arrived at my house right away because I’m still working outside the home. As long as it’s communicative and well informed, I don’t think the seller will mind waiting. We have to complete orders in the application when we have made sure we are satisfied with the product we bought.

#4 Do not pay directly to the seller’s account

Fourth, make good use of the shared account feature in Tokopedia. Several times I’ve been offered to do split payment in the form of transfers within the application and direct directly to the seller’s account, but I definitely refused outright. I’m too skeptical when it comes to money matters and I think it really helps me to do it survive in this scary digital world.

#5 Do not use delivery services outside the application

The fifth and quite crucial; make sure you don’t do shipping or expedition services outside of those on Tokopedia. Whatever the reason, never want to make a delivery that is not connected to the Tokopedia system. believe me, seller those who have indications of fraud, there will definitely be many reasons and have various ways to corner us at one point so that we are careless and want to follow their way of playing. If I, anyway, that’s how I found it seller those who have lots of reasons A, B, C, or D about shipping goods and accounts outside of Tokopedia for transactions, usually I’ll stay right away.

There are so many products on Tokopedia, so if you find one seller Which meticulous and I don’t like it sure, don’t be sad. Many roads lead to Rome, as well as many sellers on Tokopedia who feel they can serve you honestly and transparently. Remember, like a mate, the things we want will usually come at the right time. Either through the right seller, at the right price anyway.
