Learn about the 2024 call for the Acquisition Program of books by Chilean authors for distribution in Public Libraries

The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Chile, through the National Fund for the Promotion of Books and Reading, has opened its 2024 call for the Acquisition of books by Chilean authors for distribution in Public Libraries throughout the country. This call aims to support the Chilean national industry, promote national authors and provide updated bibliographic material to public library users.

Legal and natural persons may apply for this call in the following categories:

  • Fiction literature
  • Non-fiction literature
  • Heritage and Arts, Generalities
  • Basic and applied sciences
  • Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Children-Youth
  • Graphic Narrative

The nominated work must be a first edition published between January 1 and December 31, 2023

The selection of titles will be carried out by evaluation committees made up of external professionals, specially convened for these functions. Once the texts have been chosen, according to the criteria indicated in the bases of the callthe Ministry of Culture will acquire 300 copies of each.

Currently, the libraries belonging to the National System of Public Libraries of Chile renew and enrich their collections year after year with different contributions, one of the sources being the Chilean books purchased by this program. This action is directly linked to one of the objectives of the sectoral policy, in the field of Industry and internationalization, aimed at strengthening public purchasing mechanisms associated with the reading ecosystem, with criteria of bibliodiversity, gender perspective and inclusion.

The call will be open until next Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. and the application must be sent through the application platform.
