Learn about benzene, the dangerous chemical content in dry shampoo – it can trigger cancer

Unilever recently recalled many of its aerosol dry shampoo products, branded Dove, Nexxus, Suave, TIGI and TRESemme in the United States because they contain the harmful chemical benzene.

Quoted from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) page, this benzene-contaminated product was previously popularized in national retailers.

Although it has been withdrawn from circulation, there have been no further reports of the side effects of using the shampoo.

So what is benzene? And why is it so dangerous to health?

Quoted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC), benzene is a colorless chemical with a slightly sweet but flammable odor.

When exposed directly to air, the benzene will evaporate. The vapor will then dissolve in the water or float on the water.

It is from the steam that it can then trigger diseases that are dangerous to health if exposed in large quantities.

The compounds in benzene can cause the spinal cord not to make red blood cells as needed so that a person will experience anemia.
