The former director of Coexistence and Citizen Security of the Ministry of the Interior Gustavo Leal, who days ago went from being a witness to being investigated for having visited the parents of the former presidential custodian Alejandro Astesiano, is waiting to be summoned by the prosecutor Gabriela Fossati.
Sources in the case told Montevideo Portal that the front member awaits the official communication from the Public Ministry, which is expected to arrive in the next few hours. In this sense, Leal defined that Diego Camaño is his lawyer to face this judicial stage.
According to the times set by Fossati, adjusted to the law, Leal had three business days to present a defense attorney and thus be able to be summoned by the Prosecutor’s Office, now as an investigator.
Leal arrived last week at the Public Prosecutor’s Office to testify as a witness, but after a few minutes of dialogue, Fossati considered that what the former chief narrated presented facts with a criminal appearance.
Now Camaño will try to prove that his client met in Barra del Chuy (Brazil) without any intention of obstructing the investigation. One of the points where emphasis will be made is that this meeting was informal and without any specific purpose.
