Leaked: Maserati MC20 – AutoWeek.nl

The MC20 appeared on the favorite channel for this kind of prematurely leaked images, Instagram. More specifically, it concerns the account actu.auto.fr. The images were made during the studio session of a journalist who we would consider lucky under other circumstances, but of which we are suddenly no longer so jealous in view of Maserati’s possible reaction when seeing these images.

Aft deck

Whatever the case, the uncertainty surrounding the appearance of the MC20 is gone. The still somewhat grainy images show a car with familiar proportions, but also with typical Maserati characteristics. The silhouette of a typical Italian mid-engined supercar is drawn by a long butt and a very gently sloping roofline. The aft deck is finished with a promising transparent bonnet with aggressive cooling vents, while the flanks are remarkably clean given the position of the engine. The air scoops that are available are therefore neatly concealed in the dark sill and on top of the rear screen.

The short nose forms over the wheel arches cut deep into the car. The front is also nice and tight, with relatively modest headlight units accompanied by a large, but not overly large grille with – of course – Maserati trident. Another typical Maserati characteristic can be found in the wheels, whose spokes are apparently divided over three segments.

Butterfly doors

The end result looks timeless, sleek and tidy. With the doors open, however, the MC20 becomes a lot more aggressive, because the car gets real gull-wing doors. They are somewhat reminiscent of the butterfly doors of the Ferrari Enzo, where its Maserati brother MC12 had to do with traditional doors.

Behind those doors is a functional, but at the same time sporty interior. Just like the outside, the interior of the MC20 is a bit reminiscent of the Ferrari mid-engine models in terms of basic design, but compared to the current F8 Tributo, the dashboard of the Maserati is a lot tighter and more straightforward in shape. The instruments are flanked by two ventilation grilles. A wide touchscreen is placed underneath, which seems to float slightly in front of the rest of the dashboard. Behind the wheel, we also observe large shift paddles.

Elektrificatie

A completely new V6 is initially responsible for the drive of the MC20. The Nettuno engine, a 3.0-liter, delivers 630 hp and 730 Nm thanks to, among other things, two turbos. However, the MC20 must also symbolize a new era for Maserati, in which electrification plays a major role. We will know tomorrow what that vision of the future will look like.

Initially, the unveiling of the MC20 was planned for May, but due to the cause that now no longer requires a description, the event was lifted over the summer. The teaser flow therefore also lasted longer than normal. Who wants to see and read it all again, can go here.
