Leaked Image of PlayStation 5 Slim Console Revealed: Fans Divided Over Design

For the first time ever, an image of the PlayStation 5 Slim console was supposed to appear on the Internet
According to the tipsters, this is a fragment of the render of the final version, not just a prototype
However, it does not have many fans among the community, they mainly complain about the increasingly large dimensions

The first real image purportedly of Sony’s upcoming more compact “Slim” revision of the PlayStation 5 gaming console has leaked online. The image is said to come from China, where someone managed to take a photo of the upcoming packaging and also provided a testimonial regarding how the console looks live.

“According to a rumor from China, the new version of the PlayStation 5 will have a removable disc drive, almost the same dimensions, will be only 5 centimeters lower and will offer two USB-C ports on the front,” said a user with the nickname on the X network (formerly Twitter). @Gust_FAN, one of the first accounts to share the mysterious photo. Andrew Marmo was the very first to draw attention to it.

There is really very little visible from the picture, you can see the black body with two white strips – so in terms of design, the new version will not be different from the original one. In the upper part, you can still see the black dividing line, which is a bit reminiscent of a similar design element on the last generation PlayStation 4.

Even renowned journalist Tom Henderson, who runs the Insider Gaming server, has not yet commented on the leak. He had previously confirmed that he was one of the first to have a brief look at the prototype of the upcoming revision of the PlayStation 5 Slim.

Fans are not thrilled

The image, which emerged on Friday afternoon, has divided the community into two camps from the start. Some are looking forward to the new PlayStation with great expectations, while others suspect great disappointment. “The new PS5 Slim looks a bit ho**o. If this is an actual shot and not a prototype, it will be disappointing. I’m not sure how it justifies its existence other than being smaller? Definitely not slim [anglicky tenký],“ wrote one of the outraged.

It is the dimensions of the device itself that cause confusion among fans. In past generations of the console from Sony, it was customary for the already relatively compact original model to be gradually replaced by the significantly smaller and dimensionally more attractive Slim model. We should reach a solution this year, as according to earlier estimates, Sony plans to release a new revision of the PlayStation 5 in 2023.
