Leaked Facebook data can be exploited by cybercriminals

The leaked data of 52 million Latin American Facebook users could be used in targeted attacks, Kaspersky experts warn. Among the information that was exposed on the Internet last weekend are the identification number of the account (ID), name, surname (nickname), city, country, telephone number associated with the account and the user’s marital status. .

According to Kaspersky’s analysis, the largest amount of Facebook data leaked in the region comes from users in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Chile. However, when analyzing the number of data exposed in relation to the number of Facebook users by country, the most impacted are the users of Uruguay.

To protect themselves from attacks that may be exploiting this data, the expert recommends that users take more precautions when receiving emails that seem strange, even if they pretend to come from someone they trust, and limit the type of data that is shared on social networks.
