An internal Microsoft document on the run explicitly mentions the Xbox “Lockhart”, commonly referred to as the Xbox Series S by rumors.
The war of new generation consoles is brewing. On the one hand, Sony made the sauce rise for a long time before revealing the final design of its PlayStation 5, which leaked lots of ink. On the other, Microsoft has unveiled for a while the look of its Xbox Series X, while unveiling new things drop by drop during its monthly Xbox 20/20 events. Nevertheless, it would seem that the Redmond company has not yet revealed all of its plans to try to take over Sony with this next generation of console. Many rumors indeed evoke a so-called project « Lockhart », which could materialize in the form of a possible Xbox Series S, a console half the price of its big sister and without a disc player. According to a mysterious « insider », this console would even “The key to the strategy” Microsoft’s economy in the gaming industry.
But if the “Anaconda” project materialized in the console that we now know as Xbox Series X – to such an extent that Microsoft would have engraved an anaconda on its motherboard – the firm has never spoken publicly about its “Lockhart” project. Until we have official information about it, this recent leak of an internal document allows us to know more, and above all confirms to us that a second console does indeed seem to be on the program.

The document contains many tracks concerning this famous Xbox Series S. This one mentions at the same time a « AnacondaProfiling », and one « LockhartProfiling ». This last profile gives us some details: the developers would have 7.5 GB of usable RAM, a processor speed slightly under clocked compared to the Series X and about 4 teraflops of performance on the GPU side. For comparison, the Xbox Series X profile includes 13.5 GB of usable RAM and 12 teraflops of GPU performance. These profiles could be used by developers to optimize their future titles on the two consoles, note The Verge.
If it is appropriate to take this information with the tweezers of use, we suspect now that Microsoft is preparing a second console. It remains to be seen whether the Redmond company intends to launch this famous Xbox “Lockhart” – or Xbox Series S – at the same time as its big sister, or if the company will launch it in a second step in order to boost sales, as it has already done with its Xbox One S. As a reminder, the latest rumors about it speak of a sale price around 200 dollars, or twice less than the supposed price of the Series X. At this price, Microsoft could actually hurt Sony and its PS5, which should be sold at a much higher price.
