An updated version of the cult horror game Resident Evil 2 was released on PC and consoles in 2019, becoming one of Capcom’s most successful releases in a decade. The game marked the beginning of a whole series of successful remakes and ensured a strong future for the entire franchise for years to come. It is not surprising that the developers at one time thought about porting such a successful game to mobile platforms. A recent leak revealed Capcom’s concepts and plans for the release of a mobile version of the Resident Evil 2 remake.
The existence of a mobile version of the Resident Evil 2 remake became known thanks to concept artist Ye Yee Heng from Singapore, who now works at NetEase. His portfolio includes the development of detailed illustrations and concept art for the cult horror series Resident Evil. In his resume, the developer did not go into details of his participation in the creation of Resident Evil, but he attached a link to an example of his work, where concepts for the mobile version of the remake of the second part are visible. You can see the illustrations below:
Apparently, a mobile port of the updated edition of Resident Evil 2 is being created by Capcom together with the gaming division of NetEase. The published images show a fairly detailed layout of the police station – the main location of the game, but other locations are missing.
Presumably, work on a mobile version of Resident Evil 2 began several years ago, but in the end they decided to abandon the project. This is indicated by the artist’s profile, where the project is marked as “unfinished”, as well as the release of other, newer Resident Evil parts on mobile devices.
