Leaked audios: Bar Association maintains that the judicial system failed

The Bar Association pointed out that the judicial system is condemned for the ineptitude, cowardice or complicity of its judges and prosecutors, with exceptions.

He assured that the case of the leaked audios was an opportunity to condemn the “open secret” that there is a law of silence that quietly dictates resolutions. “The system failed,” the organization said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

The lawyers considered that, despite the fact that there was a condemnation of the fact, the sentences were issued “to measure”, with the aggravating factor that one of the judges even hinted at the falsehood of the witnesses.

“The ruling confirms the existence of a subsystem that measures events with different standards and that divides society from friends,” the statement said.

Manuel Riera, president of the Bar Association, pointed out, in communication with Monumental 1080AM, that this was a “great opportunity to punish an issue that has been present in Justice for a long time.”

The lawyer maintained that the minimum that is expected is that the Court of Appeal will reverse the sentence that was awarded to the convicted persons.

Judgment in case of JEM audios

The Public Ministry requested seven years of imprisonment for former Colorado senator Óscar González Daher; while for former JEM secretary Raúl Fernández Lippmann he asked for six years and six months in prison.

For Carmelo Caballero, former Minister of the Interior, he requested four years and six months of imprisonment. For his part, also former senator Jorge Oviedo Matto was acquitted.

However, González Daher was convicted of influence peddling with two years in prison; Fernández Lippmann also received the same sentence and Caballero received a sentence of 1 year and 8 months in jail.

However, the judges benefited them with the suspension on trial of the execution of the sentence, so that none will go to prison, but they will not be able to hold positions in the public function for a period of seven years.

The court was made up of judges Juan Carlos Zárate, Héctor Capurro and María Fernanda de Zúñiga.

Following the court’s decision, the Prosecutor’s Office announced that it will appeal the decision due to the slight sentence that was given to the politician.
