Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the Karlibach area in Tel Aviv following numerous reports of burning eyes and a strong smell of ammonia. The fire crews are checking the possibility of an ammonia leak and have informed restaurant workers in the area to evacuate. “The teams are waiting and working to locate the material and the leak at 23 Karlibach St., corner of the Hasmonaim, the public is asked not to approach the place.”

A week ago, the Ministry of Environmental Protection reported on the process of emptying ammonia from the cooling system of the “Forgal” cold store in the heart of Tel Aviv, near where the fire brigades are now. In total, two tons of anhydrous ammonia were evacuated from the site. The ammonia was evacuated by the Haifa Chemicals emergency team hired by the plant.
