Last week, leaker Mark Gurman via the publication Bloomberg stated that Apple intends to delay the launch of the next iPad OS from September to October, and thus launch version 16 of the iPad OS and Ios at different times. In that case, it would be the first time in over ten years that the two versions are not launched at the same time.
Now Gurman provides more information regarding the events, where he addresses, among other things, two reasons why Apple informed its engineers about the decision a month ago.
According to Gurman, one of the reasons is that it is a step in Apple’s vision to make the iPad more of an alternative to a laptop computer. Therefore, it would be more logical to launch Ios at the same time as Watch OS in September, as well as Ipad OS together with Mac OS Ventura in October. It would also fit better with the fact that both Ipad OS 16 and Mac OS Ventura will get the Stage Manager tool.
Just Stage Manager may be another part of the explanation according to Gurman. During most of its development, Stage Manager has suffered from serious problems. Another, or another, reason for the delay could be that Ipad OS 16 is simply not in such a condition that it can be launched.
However, the decision may cause problems for consumers who use both iPhone and iPad as the different operating systems and a range of apps it uses work slightly differently depending on the OS, which may cause usage to lag until the iPad OS is launched.
Developers can have even bigger problems if they work with universal apps that should work on both operating systems – should you launch an app for Ios 16 that could potentially be broken on Ipad OS 16, or not launch until both operating systems are launched.
Both of these details can have the effect that the willingness to upgrade from Ios 15 to Ios 16 may be significantly lower than in many years, until both versions are launched.
