Leak of Water Contaminated with Radioactivity Reported at US Nuclear Power Plant.

US officials are closely monitoring the process of cleaning up radioactive water, after a leak at a nuclear power plant in Minnesota.

And press reports stated that about 1.5 liters of radioactive water had leaked into the power plant.

The company, “Excel Energy”, which manages the nuclear facility, said that the leak was completely contained at the site, without extending to the outside.

Meanwhile, officials from government institutions said that there is no imminent danger to public health due to the water leakage, according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

The leak was first discovered in late November 2022, but government officials did not officially announce it until Thursday.

What is the seriousness of the incident?

• The station’s radioactive water contains tritium, which is a common substance in the processes that take place in nuclear facilities.

• In the event that hydrogen isotopes arise through a natural reaction, the tritium material leads to weak emissions that do not spread to far places in the air.

• Tritium also cannot penetrate human skin, according to the US Federal Commission for Nuclear Regulations and Controls known as “NRC”.

• Accidental tritium leaks occur in nuclear plants, and the matter is often quickly contained, and it rarely poses a threat to human health.
