League of Legends’ New Champion Smolder to Change Appearance Following User Complaints

‘League of Legends’ new ranged damage champion Smolder, whose detailed skills were revealed through a teaser video related to the new champion on the 5th and the introduction of the champion on the 6th, will change his face design.

The new champion, Smolder, received a positive response immediately after its release. As with the core line, such as the emergence of a simple and strong long-distance dealer and the release of a non-human long-distance dealer, various analyzes, strategies, and background story predictions are already underway.

However, unlike performance, user complaints exploded regarding Smolder’s appearance. Although Smolder is a dragon, he has a human face shape, eyes, nose, and mouth, leading to comments calling it bizarre. In particular, some users left comments saying that they felt an uncanny valley, using the image of Sonic from the past movie before his appearance was changed as an example.

Accordingly, Riot Games champion lead producer Lexi ‘Riot Lexical’ Gao announced on Twitter that she would change her appearance to reflect the opinions. The key to the change is to eliminate the existing round face shape and change it to a more dragon-like angular face, adding scales, and having sharp eyes.

As the proposed change becomes more dragon-like, reactions from users are mixed. While Smolder’s skill composition emphasizes the cute aspect, some users are cheering for this as the best change, while others are requesting further modifications because they still feel the uncanny valley.

Meanwhile, ‘League of Legends’ new champion Smolder is scheduled to appear as a long-distance dealer that anyone can use easily and powerfully. Its initial attack power is higher than that of any other champion, but its growth power is weak, and it is predicted that it will become a champion whose carry power in the later stages is determined by skill level through stacking. It is scheduled to appear on the PBE server for the first time on the 10th, and will be officially updated on the main server in early February.
