League Cup: Chelsea leaves, Manchester United regains confidence – League Cup – 8th round

It’s really been a long time since we’ve seen Chelsea do anything.

This Wednesday, the Londoners were eliminated by Newcastle (2-0) in the round of 16 of the English League Cup. In this battle of the very rich, the Blues were betrayed by two former Monaco players in three minutes: a poorly supported pass from Benoît Badiashile cost Alexander Isak the opener (1-0, 24th), while an incredible own goal from Axel Disasi allowed Magpies to make the break (2-0, 27th). Another surprise of the day: the elimination of Aston Villa at home against Crystal Palace (1-2), yet mired at the gates of the red zone in the championship.

During the rest of the evening, Liverpool and Arsenal also qualified for the quarter-finals by respectively dismissing Brighton (2-3) and Preston North End (0-3). In the turmoil of recent weeks, Manchester United gave themselves a little breathing space by easily dismissing Leicester City (5-2). THE Red Devilstemporarily coached by Ruud van Nistelrooy, did the job thanks to doubles from Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes as well as a pawn from Alejandro Garnacho.

Life is immediately easier without Erik ten Hag.

The first results of the evening:

Brighton 2-3 Liverpool League Cup: Chelsea leaves, Manchester United regains confidence – League Cup – 8th round
