WOODEN, KOMPAS.com – Residents of Tanjung Rancing Village, District Kayuagung, Ogan Komering Ilir, South Sumatra, was shocked by an attack inside the mosque on Friday (11/9/2020).

A mosque imam named Muhammad Arif (61) was hacked by one of his congregation while leading the maghrib prayer in the mosque.

As a result of this incident, Muhammad Arif, who is also a retiree of ASN, was severely stabbed on the right side of his face.

The victim was immediately taken to a hospital in Palembang for medical treatment.

From the amateur video received, blood could be seen splattered on the floor of the Nurul Iman mosque, where the attack took place.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator of the stabbing with the initials M (49) who was also a congregation of the mosque was arrested by the police with the assistance of TNI personnel and residents.

According to information obtained from residents, the perpetrator was offended because the victim asked the perpetrator to hand over the key to the charity box that had been there for a long time.

The victim requested that the keys to the charity box be handed over to the treasurer of the mosque.

After stabbing, M ran to one of the residents’ houses. However, he was successfully secured by a TNI personnel with the help of residents.

The police also immediately took the perpetrator to the Kayuagung Police Headquarters to avoid the emotions of other residents.

One of the victims’ families, Efrohayati, immediately came to the Kayuagung Police Headquarters to make a report.

Efrohayati said that she did not expect what happened to her brother.

Moreover, the perpetrators and victims know each other well.

Even the perpetrators often drive their brother’s vehicle when going somewhere.

“I did not expect the events that befell my sister-in-law. I am here to make a report,” he said.

Currently, the perpetrator, who works as a construction worker, is currently being held at the Kayuagung Police to undergo an examination.

Kapolres Ogan Komering Ilir AKBP Alamsyah Pelupessy confirmed the information about the incident.

When confirmed, Alamsyah said the perpetrator was currently under investigation.
