The 41-year-old Kara-Murza was also accused of treason and association with an undesirable organization.
He was sentenced to seven years for “military forgery”, three years for participating in the activities of an “undesirable” organization and 18 years for treason.
Kara-Murza was a close ally of Kremlin critics Boris Nemtsov and Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Oppositionist Nemtsov was shot on February 27, 2015 in the center of Moscow, near the Kremlin.
Most Kremlin critics are in prison or have left Russia like Khodorkovsky.
