Brandenburg will continue to play in the Bundesliga. The defender, who trained at Holstein Kiel and VfL Wolfsburg, is leaving the sports club after three years. The 24-year-old played 60 times in the Bundesliga for the relegated team.

“With Michaela Brandenburg, a player who is versatile is moving to us. As captain of SC Sand, she has also already proven that she has leadership skills,” said Bremen department head Birte Brüggemann about the new signing on the club’s website.

Born in Kiel, she explains her move: “The club was very interested from the start and the plans that were described to me sounded good. That’s why the decision was very easy for me.” She sees another advantage in the fact that she is “a lot closer to my home” and will therefore “feel at home very quickly with Werder”.
