Leaders from around the world express condolences for Odisha tragedy

Pope Francis expressed grief over the tragedy and said he is praying for the families of the dead and the injured.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a telegram message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu, expressing grief over the Odisha disaster. Putin also wished the injured a speedy recovery, the Kremlin said in a statement.

British Prime Minister

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that they share the pain of the families and friends of those who lost their lives and express their support to those who survived the disaster and those who are tirelessly doing rescue work.

Canadian Prime Minister

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the images and news of the Odisha disaster broke his heart and Canadians stand with Indians in this difficult time.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif responded by saying that he was deeply saddened by the loss of hundreds of lives in the train accident in India and expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy. Sharif also tweeted praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan expressed grief over the tragedy.

US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti said the United States stands with India in this time of grief. Russian Ambassador to India Dennis Alipov also expressed his condolences.

French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Chinese Foreign Ministry, Taiwan President Tsai-Ing Wen, European Council President Charles Michael, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Norwegian Foreign Minister Anniken Heitfelt, Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabri, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotte Tshering, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and UN General Assembly President Chaba Kuroshi joined in the mourning.
