Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan and MLAs Charged for Violent Clash in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have registered a case against leader of the opposition VD Satheesan as the first accused in connection with the youth congress secretariat march being violent. A case has also been filed against MLAs Shafi Parambil, M Vincent, Rahul Mangkoothil and others for assaulting the police.

The conflict culminated in the youth congress’s secretariat march against the violence against the black flag protesters against the chief minister. 20 people were arrested in connection with the conflict. There are cases against 300 known people. They will be produced in court on Thursday, who have been booked on non-bailable sections including destruction of public property.

The case is related to the clash that took place in front of the Secretariat and the DCC office on Wednesday. Two buses and a Pink Police car were among those vandalized. Eight policemen, including Poojappura CI Roja and Cantonment SI Diljith, were seriously injured including broken bones.
Many Youth Congress workers were also injured in the clash.

Stones and sticks provoked the pelting of sandals. The police fired water cannon five times but the activists did not disperse. There was a scuffle with the police at the North Gate. Women activists including tried to enter the Secretariat by crossing the wall. When the police resisted, they took big sticks and hit the police. The shield in the hands of two policemen was smashed. After the stone pelting activists were taken into custody, the leaders intervened and pulled them out of the bus. On the other side, there was another clash after allegedly tearing the clothes of the women workers. Leaders including state president Rahul Mangkoot were also injured during the violence. Later, the police also moved after the activists who returned to the DCC office. The youth congressmen forcibly took the two activists who were taken into custody from the police vehicle.
