The Colombian Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) confirmed on Sunday the assassination of the lawyer and leader of the Historical Pact, Juan Bautista Navarro, in the city of Magangué, department of Bolívar.

According to local media, on Saturday night Navarro was surprised by two alleged assassins at his home in the Montecarlo district of Magangué.
Juan Bautista Navarro became known in the country for his activity and social service in favor of the most needy.

The members of the Historical Pact of Magangué raised their voices to protest the assassination of the famous lawyer and rejected the bloodshed in which the Petrist leader, husband of the leader Yaneidis Toscano of the Alianza Verde party, was assassinated.
The political group has asked the Colombian government for the presence of security forces to dismantle any criminal scenario against the leaders, men and women of Magangué.

Members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office arrived at the home of the lawyer Navarro and inspected the body of the leader of the Historical Pact and took him to Legal Medicine.
According to Indepaz’s toll, at least 184 social leaders have been assassinated in Colombia, during 2022.
For its part, the UN has indicated that so far this year 89 social leaders have been killed in armed attacks for crimes related to their work in the community.
