Fortaleza reached a milestone this Sunday, beating Sport by 1-0, hitherto unprecedented among Northeasterners in the Brazilian Championship of the first division of straight points, played since 2003.
The team is the first in the region to win nine points in the first three clashes of the tournament. In addition to beating Sport 1-0 at home, a penalty goal well beaten by Wellington Paulista, Tricolor beat Atlético-MG by 2-1, at Mineirão, and Internacional, 5-1, at Castellan.
Among the clubs in the Northeast, the maximum points added were seven points in three matches: Náutico (2009), Ceará (2010), Vitória (2013), Sport (2015), Santa Cruz (2016) and Bahia (2020).
Under the command of Argentine Juan Pablo Vojvoda, Fortaleza leads Serie A 2021.
