It was the artist’s agent, Robert Hayes, who confirmed the news, in particular to the media Rolling Stonestating that he was surrounded by his loved ones and passed away “peacefully”.
“Steve Harwell was a true American original. A larger-than-life figure that soared into the sky like a Roman candle, Hayes said in a statement to CNN. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and passionate determination to achieve the heights of pop stardom.”
During Harwell’s career, Smash Mouth earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for “All Star,” a song that went on to achieve cult status after its appearance on the soundtrack of the animated film “Shrek”, in 2001.
