“I happened to live three blocks, that is to say three buildings, three streets from the World Trade Center, I was evacuated. We were evacuated from the buildings, we didn’t understand. We thought there was a fire in the World Trade Center and then we said to ourselves, there’s a bomb. I thought we were being shot at. But in fact it was the first building, the first tower, which had collapsed. A tsunami of dust coming towards us. I fell to the ground, my whole arm was scratched.”she remembered, before adding:
” We wake up. We remember strange things in these cases. I remember, I was in flip flops and I didn’t have a bra. It sounds stupid to tell you this but it means running 45 minutes barefoot and without a bra”.
Shocked
“I ran, I fell, I stopped, I looked. I thought it was birds jumping, in fact it was men jumping. And after 45 minutes of a crazy race, I arrived at my university, I went up the six floors and my roommate, who was French, Clémence, was crying and crying saying ‘you’re not dead! the towers have collapsed’. I said ‘what tricks? we were shot at’. »she continued, before concluding, still traumatized by what she experienced:
“This is what I experienced from September 11 and so for twenty-two years, I have not been able to look at the images. I see them from afar on TV every September 11th but I don’t linger”.
