Lea Leddin couldn’t believe it. The sports science student prevailed against her competitors Katharina Hanten (25) and Sophia Neuberger (22), but with a majority. The latest technology was used for voting: QR codes were distributed to the tables by helpers from the Dirndl-Lederhosen-Stammtisch. At 7:01 p.m., moderator Howard Biery instructed: “Let the games begin.” In his capacity as a lawyer, Steffen Christmann made sure that everything was done properly.

Princess freestyle first step
Leddin, Neuberger and Hanten had already become princesses a few weeks before the pretzel festival. There were eight applicants to succeed Anne-Susan I. In a preliminary decision, a jury chose the three finalists who were allowed to face the audience in the marquee. “Girls, a lot awaits you,” Anne-Susan I promised the three princesses when they said goodbye. She herself enjoyed the time as queen very much and expressed her gratitude that the Speyer Tourist Office and Event GmbH, as the organizer of the pretzel festival, provided this honorary post.

Speyer’s cult pastry in new splendor: the heart pretzel as a unique jewellery

Tourist association chairman Uwe Wöhlert paid tribute to the courage of the three candidates to present themselves in front of the fully occupied marquee. They did it tensely, but in the best of moods and anticipation of the approaching Queen’s Office. Being authentic and conveying the Speyer joie de vivre – that’s what Anne-Susan I. gave the candidates beforehand as a task of their office.
met passions
Before the hot phase of voting began, the trio, accompanied by the Dirndl-Lederhosen regulars, walked down Maximilianstraße to the fairground. Self-introduction and question and answer session had to be survived there. The audience learned a lot: from Leddin her passion for Star Wars, from Neuberger her world’s best steamed noodles, from Hanten her time in Namibia.

Tension-increasing: The voting time had to be extended – in the first go there was a tie. At 7.38 p.m. there was certainty: the crown goes to Lea I. “I don’t think I’ve even registered that yet,” she said after leaving the stage, where she was already able to get used to the new attention. Lea I. wanted to celebrate with family and friends on Saturday evening, which had opened as a night in costume.
This Monday at 12 noon, the pretzel festival picture with a motif by the artist René Buja, who was born in Heidelberg and lives in Speyer, will be auctioned off in the Schwarzwaldhaisl beer garden.
